Editor's Musings

Editor's Musings

Opening thoughts from the editor's desk.

Sharon Cress is the editor of the Journal.

As ministry wives we have so many unique opportunities to serve Jesus and His church. However, our families are also the target of malicious gossip and undeserved criticism. The most hurtful usually comes from the unconverted members. It is particularly grevious for families. Here are some quotations from my favorite pastors wife, Ellen White, who underssod this both from personal experience and enlightment from God. I hope they will encourage you as they have me!

"There are many who find special enjoyment in discoursing and dwelling upon the defects, whether real or imaginary, of those who fear havey responsibility in connection with the institution's of God's cause.

"They overlook the good that has been accomplished, the benefits that have resulted from arduous labor, and unflinching devotion to the cause, and fasten their attention upon some apparent mistake..." 4T, 196.

"The time spent in criticizing the motives and works of Christ's servants might better be spent in prayer" 8T, 83.

"Satan has many helpers. Many who profess to be Christians are aiding the tempter...The minister's character, motives, and actions and the conduct of fellow members of the church are freely discussed. Severe judgment is pronounced, gossip or slander is repealed...COL 45.

"Nothing so offends God as an act that injures the influence of those who are doing His service. He will call to account all who aid Satan in his work of criticizing and discouraging" 6T. 42.

Keep a positive Spirit! God sees it all!
