Becoming a Prayer-Saturated Church
Is prayer the lifeblood of your church?
It was prayer that transformed the Apostolic church. Ten days of united prayer opened the way for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It was the launchpad that thrust the church into the limelight of the first century and propelled its growth throughout the then-known world. Prayer truly was the lifeblood of the early church.
It can become the lifeblood of your church and my church too.
I'll never forget when I first began to pray for my local church. Long-time leaders in the church had just walked out, disgruntled by a nominating committee decision. A number of members had left with them and our church seemed on the verge of collapsing. The situation brought me to my knees.
I wasn't the only one to start praying. Our realization of our desperate need for God's help brought together those of us who remained in earnest intercession. We began praying together at prayer meetings, and gradually, our numbers increased. Prayer meeting became a wonderful time of connection with our Lord that none of us wanted to miss. We began sharing prayer requests and praises at church. It was exciting to see what God was doing in answer to prayer! In time, the church began to increase in size again. Our church had become a house of prayer--a church saturated and transformed by prayer.
Such a transformation is possible for every church that earnestly seeks God in prayer.
